Club History

Below are snippets from the club history as recorded by Keith Lierse in the publication:

The History of the Koonung Bushwalking Club Inc. 1985-1995.

The first office bearers of the club were:

President: Judy Chivers, Vice President: Margaret Maxwell, Secretary: Brian Kemp, Treasurer: Peter Clark

Newsletter: Val Lewis, Walks Secretary: Fran Hanrahan, Social Secretary: Eva Sperlich.

The first walk (in fact there were 2) were on Sunday 21 April 1985 at:

Westerfolds Park led by Peter Clark and Big Pat's Creek/Starling Gap led by Alan Campbell.

The first mid week walk was on Thursday 2 May 1985 at:

Masons Falls in the Kinglake National Park led by Alan Campbell.

The first overnight walk was on 4/5 May 1985 at:

Mt Baw Baw Plateau led by Keith Lierse.

The first social event:

Saturday 26 July 1985, Doncaster East High School, Bush Dance, $6.00 each.

The first fees were $15 single membership or $25 per family.

By July 1985 the club had 75 members (48 single and 27 family members).

Who named the clubs newsletter "Walktalk"?

Not known for a fact but probably Judy Chivers or Brian Kemp.

Ten memorable sayings from the clubs verbal archives:
